Character Analysis of Ponyboy
Ponyboy Curtis is the youngest out if the Greasers. He is 14, small, and has long, greasy hair that makes him look tuff. I picked Ponyboy because he is the main character and is most talked about. I like that this character is the same age as me and some of the situations he gets into are similar to other teenagers. There really isn’t much that I don’t like about this character. I guess I can relate to Ponyboy because he is the outcast of his family and they don’t really understand him. I don’t really know anybody that is like him but I‘m sure there are many people just like Ponyboy. Ponyboy is revealed not a lot in the beginning of the novel.
Ponyboy is revealed as a smart boy who enjoys reading and going to the movie house. He is the only one that goes to school in his family. Ponyboy enjoys reading like the book he read in the novel “Gone with the Wind.” He enjoys going to movies too but some of the gang he is in doesn’t like the movies very much so he goes by himself. In the first chapter after Ponyboy is done watching a movie and is walking home he gets jumped by the Socs. Darry and the gang have to come help him out. “You don’t ever think,” Darry broke in “not at home or anywhere it counts. You must think at school, with all those good grades you bring home, and you’ve always got your nose in a book, but do you ever use your head for common sense? No sirree, bub. And if you did have to go by yourself, you should have carried a blade.” It shows that Ponyboy doesn’t really think before he gets involved in situations which can get him in trouble. It also shows when he does use his head its mostly in school. But he changes.
Ponyboy changes throughout by growing up and maturing. He learns how to be on his own and survive. Ponyboy believes that the Greasers shouldn’t fight the Socs because it isn’t worth it. He also saved the kids from the burning church. He changes in the end when Johnny dies, and Johnny says to him, “Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold….” The change is important because it helps him grow and understand more, which most teenagers can relate to. But Ponyboy does change.
Ponyboy at the end is much more mature due to the loss of Johnny and Dally. He is also a lot closer with Darry than before which is really good. Sodapop reminded the brothers, “We’re all we got left. We ought to be able to stick together against everything. If we don’t have each other, we don’t have anything, you end up like Dallas… and I don’t mean dead either. I mean like he was before. And that’s worse than dead. Please”- he wiped his eyes with his arm-“don’t fight anymore.” I think it’s for the better because he’s closer to the only family he has left. I have learned so much.
I have learned that even when you don’t have that great of a life that your parents aren’t there and you only have a brother that loves you and a brother that is mean it’s better than not having anyone. H e still has his friends the Greasers which are like his other family. Ponyboy has been through a lot more than most teenagers but it’s helped him grow. I think Ponyboy has changed for the better.
Persuasive Essay
There can be many kinds of books. More than you can probably think of. Books are a very good way to occupy your time.
There are many different types of books varying from history to mystery to romance. Different people like to read different kinds of books. I personally like to read romances and mysteries. There are many different authors. The number 1 bestselling author would be JK Rowling who is the author of the “Harry Potter” series. The two places that carry many books would be a book store or if you don’t want to buy a book every time can go to the library and check out books there. That doesn’t cost you anything.
Books tend to vary in cost. Most of the paperback books cost under $10 but the hard cover books cost about over $10. A lot of the time you can find hard cover books in paperback. Sometimes you can just get lost in a book and forget where you are. Sometimes you can’t even put down the book because it’s so good. But sometimes there are books that you get so bored with. Sometimes there are books that are so good you want to read them over again.
Just see how good books are. I love reading. Especially when I have nothing else to do.
